FOLLICULAR
UNIT GRAFTING

Before
making a decision about hair
transplantation, it is important to
understand the basic process of hair
growth. The average person is born
with 100,000 – 125,000 hair
follicles distributed throughout the
scalp. Hair naturally grows out of
the scalp in irregular groupings
called follicular units. Each
follicular unit bundle may contain
one, two, three, or even four hairs. Since your native
hair naturally grows in these
follicular units, state- of- the-art
hair transplantation utilizes
follicular unit grafts to obtain the
same natural appearance.
The evolution of hair
transplantation has progressed from
large plugs containing 20 – 30
hairs, to minigrafts containing
several follicular units in one
graft, to individual follicular unit
micrografts which contain one to
four hairs tightly arranged in a
bundle. These bundles naturally
occur in the scalp. Follicular unit
grafts are taken from the donor hair
that is removed from the back of the
head. Then our highly trained and
experienced technicians use
stereoscopic microscopes to prepare
the follicular units. These
high-powered microscopes are
essential for cutting
premium grafts and eliminating the
possibility of damage to surrounding
follicles.
